Heather Macias

Heather was born in Columbus, Ohio. She moved to Arizona where she attended high school and college. She met and married her first husband Daniel in Phoenix in 2001. For over 20 years Heather was a military spouse with four children, Heather has lived in various locations around the world. Heather's first husband developed brain cancer and passed away. This personal experience led Heather to become a grief and loss counselor. Heather has remarried and now has a blended family with eight children. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with specializations in Children, Youth and Families and Military Social Work from the University of Southern California. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Addiction Counselor in Colorado, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Utah that specializes in trauma. Heather also completed a master’s degree in Public Management at Johns Hopkins University which focuses on public policy as well as public administration.
Heather specializes in trauma and PTSD utilizing IFS, CBT, Somatic work, EMDR and Brainspotting techniques. Heather is also a yoga instructor and specializes in trauma yoga. Heather has worked with many individuals that have suffered traumatic events, relational trauma, abuse, neglect, and religious trauma. Heather has helped sexual assault survivors for the last 10 years and has worked within the military as a victim’s advocate. Heather has continued to seek ways to support victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, trauma, and addiction in both military and civilian communities.
Healing is possible with the right support and guidance. Developing a supportive honest and open therapeutic relationship is integral to the therapy process. It can be difficult to share and open up about traumatic experiences and finding the right therapist for your needs is the first step.
